Common questions about the Oregon CHL certification course.
Is this certificate accepted by Oregon sheriffs?
Yes. This course meets Oregon's requirements under ORS 166.291 for CHL application. The certificate includes all required information: your name, completion date, instructor information, and course details.
How long does the course take?
About 15 minutes. The course covers Oregon CHL laws, firearm safety fundamentals, and use of force guidelines. After completing the course material, you'll take a short quiz.
What if I fail the quiz?
You can retake the quiz as many times as needed at no extra charge. Review the course material and try again until you pass.
What score do I need to pass?
You need 70% or higher to pass. The quiz has 10 questions covering the material from the course.
When do I get my certificate?
Immediately after passing the quiz and completing payment. You can print it or download a PDF right away.
What do I do with the certificate?
Take it to your county sheriff's office along with a valid photo ID and the application fee. They will process your CHL application and conduct a background check.
How long does the CHL application take?
The sheriff has up to 45 days to process your application. Processing times vary by county.
Can I verify my certificate later?
Yes. Use the certificate number printed on your certificate to verify it anytime at chlprep.com/verify.
Is there a refund policy?
Yes. If you're not satisfied with the course for any reason, contact us within 30 days for a full refund.
Does this course teach me how to shoot?
No. This is a legal certification course that meets Oregon's minimum requirements for CHL application. It covers laws, safety rules, and responsibilities. If you want hands-on firearm training, that's a separate service.
How long is the certificate valid?
The certificate itself doesn't expire. However, once you receive your CHL, it's valid for 4 years before needing renewal.
Can I take this course on my phone?
Yes. The course works on mobile devices, tablets, and computers. You can start on one device and continue on another.
